A receipt, 1858, for the purchase of eleven slaves in Lowndes Co., Ala., at the cost of $10,500; two letters, 1862-1863, about Hall's service in the Confederate Army, Third Ala. Regiment; and a dismissal, 1866, of a court case against Hall, due to a pardon by President Andrew Johnson, by the U.S. District Attorney for the northern district of Ala., in Montgomery, Ala.

The Third Alabama Infantry Regiment was organized at Montgomery in April, 1861. It was the first Alabama command that was sent to Virginia. Mustered into service at Lynchburg, 4 May, the regiment was ordered to Norfolk. There it was in a temporary brigade with the 1st and 12 VA, under Col. Jones M.
